Defacing of Signs

Some clever individual neatly carved the word “No” out of a sign, just installed May 12, at the bottom of the incline. The sign had read “No dogs allowed.”So now you’ve gone from being just a…Continue

December 13, 2012 from 5pm to 8pm
Come join fellow Inclineaholics, rub elbows and bend them at D'Vine Wine in Manitou Springs. In collaboration with the Trails and Open Space Coalition (TOSC) we're having a fun social gathering. Taste some wine and pick up a bottle of the special edition Incline Wine (in a red or a white). $3 from every bottle of Incline Wine purchased, goes to Incline Friends and $3 goes to TOSC.See More

Defacing of Signs

Some clever individual neatly carved the word “No” out of a sign, just installed May 12, at the bottom of the incline. The sign had read “No dogs allowed.”So now you’ve gone from being just a scofflaw to being a vandal. You’ve lost any respect or credibility you might have had as a responsible dog owner. It’s probably fair to assume that your canine is better behaved than you and you aren't making a good case for those who would like to continue using the Incline with their dogs. While there are…See More

"Hi Christine, previous information for this work day was incorrect as far as location. Volunteers are asked to meet at Memorial Park in Manitou Springs (Old Man Trail and El Paso Boulevard, just behind and east of the police station) by 7:30…"

"Emily, I just spoke with Friends of the Peak and we would welcome any time you can spare for this project. We will be approximately 20-25 minutes up the trail from the parking lot. We should be easy to spot, lots of tools. Thanks!"

Bill Beagle replied to Tim Bergsten's discussion Cog Railway offers free shuttle to base of Incline
"So I utilized the parking lot today. Got there about 8:15 a.m. and was the only car in the lot. So much room here, this will be a great alternative to poling around Ruxton Avenue and wasting valuable hiking time. I knew the shuttle was not operating…"

Bill Beagle left a comment for Emily Quaranta
"Emily, I'm not sure what section of the trail we're going to be working on, it may be a mile or so up the trail. Since Friends of the Peak are organizing this work day, they would prefer you visit their site at fotp.com to register and get…"

Expectations of a Trail Work Day

At our recent crew leader training some of us discussed the “patience factor,” i.e. crew leaders don’t want to be waiting around for volunteers to organize, pay attention, etc. and volunteers, since they are giving freely of their time, don’t want that time wasted either. As a volunteer, when you arrive for a trail project you can expect a certain amount of time will be spent organizing you into different crews, familiarizing you with tools and most importantly, reviewing safety protocol. Once…See More

Crew Leader Training

Board President Steve Bremner and Board Member BIll Beagle took part in approximately 16 hours of Crew Leader Training during the April 20-22 weekend. It was a great weekend to be outside in two beautiful spots, Glen Eyrie and Garden of the Gods and we even managed to get some good work done, on a new trail, an existing trail and reclamation work on a social trail. One of the most gratifying aspects was seeing 29 other people take part in this training. Sez a lot about just how much people care…See More

First Wedding on the Incline ???

A little more than a week past Valentine's Day, love sprang eternal on the Incline. Friends said this couple had met on the Incline so just up from the base and to the side of the ties they tied the knot on Saturday, February 23. Yes, of course, the couple and some of the wedding party intended to hike the Incline post-ceremony. If she'd had a bouquet that would've been quite the toss from the top ay?…

Thanks to all of Our "Outlaw" Donors

Incline Diva Jill Suarez (or as she dubbed herself, "The Incline Bunny)" was one of more than a dozen people who ponied up cash to have their picture taken, one more time, with the "No Trespassing" sign that was removed from the Incline for eventual display at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum. A lot of hikers took advantage of a beautiful, Spring-like day to climb the Incline which became legally open to the public on February 1, 2013. One couple (see above)…
